Manchester & District Ladies Golf Association
The Association began as the inspired idea of Mrs. Glascott of Didsbury Golf Club, who dreamed of creating a championship for female golfers in the Manchester area in 1902, similar to the popular Balfour & Houldsworth competitions for men.
While some initial skepticism arose, with one journalist suggesting it might be a touch too ambitious, the vision evolved into something even more special. Instead of a championship, the “Challenge Trophy” was born, setting the stage for a tradition of skill, camaraderie, and friendly competition that has flourished ever since.

“My thanks go to the Past Presidents of the Manchester and District Ladies Golf Association for putting their trust in me to carry on the remarkable history of this organisation. I could not take on the role without the hard work and dedication of the Ladies committee, freely giving up their time and bringing their own individual talents to the successful organisation and running of our golf events.
I look forward to meeting many members of the Association during 2026 at our various competitions and wish you all a fun and rewarding golfing season.”
