A Great Day at Davenport: Team Event Results

Thirty teams of four took to the course at Davenport for this year’s Team Event, with just one playing slot left unfilled on the day. The weather was ideal for golf: warm, comfortable and never too hot.

Wonderful hosts

Davenport looked after us superbly from start to finish. Ahead of the day, they had set the competition up on their system and entered every competitor with her CDH number, which meant we could show a live leaderboard in the clubhouse.

There was an early hiccup when intelligentgolf hadn’t updated, but everyone was soon signed in correctly. Thanks go to Davenport’s Lady Vice Captain, Jocelyn, who was on hand at the computer to make any team amendments on the signing-in sheet.

The greens staff looked after the flag for us, tea and coffee were available all day, and parking was easy for everyone. The catering and bar staff were great, staying on until the very last group had finished.

The golf

Scoring was tight. An 82 led the way for much of the day before two teams edged ahead with 84. Then, almost at the last, Greenmount came in with a winning 85.

There were five twos on the day, including two from the same lady in Janis’s team. Each two was rewarded with four balls.

Because the winning team were almost the last to finish, the President was able to present their vouchers in person and have photographs taken with the trophy, which will be formally presented at the AGM.

Thank you

A huge thank you to Debbie, my assistant on the day. I couldn’t have run the event without her, and we had plenty of laughs along the way. A firm friendship was formed.

Thank you also to our President, who acted as starter and welcomed every team, and to Liz, who stepped in to give her some well-earned breaks.

Our raffle ladies, Jackie and Ann, were at their table all day and looked very busy, so I’m hopeful it did well. Any uncollected prizes are in the President’s safekeeping for the next event.

A day to remember

We received a lot of compliments on how well the day ran, which made all the effort worthwhile. Debbie, the President and I were very glad to get home and put our feet up!
